My 1000x (10-stop) filter just arrived. I ordered it too late for the eclipse last week, but took some shots of the evening sun today. You can see the atmospheric refraction effects around the edge, because the sun was quite low in the sky. A few sunspots are visible, and also some other surface features.

I'll take some more with my 7D body tomorrow to see how they compare.
